Family Prayer

August 18, 2010, 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Lord, are they few in number who are to be saved?”

READINGS:
1. Isaiah 66:18-21
2. Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13
3. Gospel of Luke 13:22-30

REFLECTION:  Too often, we waste our time with wrong questions, rather than questions that lead us forward and bring us to new awareness—more positive questions, active, and challenging.

- How can I learn more about this?
- How can I do better the next time?
- What can I learn from this experience?
- How can I be more responsible?
- What can I do for others today?

PRAYER:  Lord, you search me and know me.  You know when I sit and when I stand.  You know me through and through.  You know what is best for me.  I trust in your loving kindness.  Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
What questions do you have today?  How does trust in God relate to these questions?

Tuesday:
Take time today to review your life and the life of your family unit.  Discover in which areas you need to take more responsibility and not leave an outcome to chance or the actions of others.

Wednesday:
Pray the fourth mystery of the Rosary today, the Mysteries of Light.  Pray for our elected authorities that they make prayerful decisions.

Thursday:
Do something today with the family that supports your belief in helping others.

Friday:
Exercise leadership today as an individual or as a family by participating in a church or community activity.

Saturday:
Take responsibility today for family prayer.  If you have not already developed a tradition of praying together, begin today.

PRAYER:  What return can I make to the Lord for all his goodness to me?  I will take my life in my hands and make the best of all his blessings.  Lord, help me to be strong and to do my best.  Amen.
